    THEATRE AND FILM

    A 2 week workshop with the aim of producing video documentation for theatre led by Chiara Crupi (Odin Teatret Film)

    Creating films that document theatre performances requires a balancing act that takes into consideration the fidelity of documentation, the efficacy of translating into film language and the personal point of view of the spectator. The workshop offers a concrete occasion for experimentation and analysis concerning the intricate relationship between theatre and film.

    The workshop includes: a brief introductory phase of theoretical analysis using examples from films of Odin Teatret's performances and history; filming of performance and rehearsal in connection with theatre residence of Altamira Laboratorio (Italy) directed by Pierangelo Pompa); editing  and montage using archive material and the audio-visual documentation produced during the workshop.

    The workshop aims include:

    1. giving basic knowledge on how to film theatre performances;

    2. reflecting over the characteristics of realising theatre documentation and detecting potentialities, diffculties and possible languages and keys of expression;

    3. making a video recording of the activities of the theatre residence produced by the participants;

    4. producing a short final elaboration to be published on a website.

    The workshop is for students and theatre practitioners interested in the techniques of producing videos of their performances or for film-makers interested in developing their experience by confronting the particular situation of filming a theatre performance.

    The workshop includes one meeting with Eugenio Barba, and encounters with Odin Teatret actors and producers, and with Odin Teatret Archive staff.
