    Above the skin

    Monday, August 10, 2015 - Monday, August 17, 2015

    In the framework of
Holstebro Kommune - Odin Teatret - IKC, Interkulturelt Center

DOO performing arts group / NTL Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium (IT-DK)
City of Paris - Residency programme at the Cité internationale des Arts /La Fabrique des Pépinières (FR)

10 - 17 AUGUST (including arrival and departure)

A one week workshop at Odin Teatret led by Giuseppe L. Bonifati of DOO (Divano Occidentale Orientale) to make urban actions and prepare a group performance with 20 participants (artists and not) in Holstebro.

Despite the many humanitarian battles of nowadays, we have good reason to say that we do not care about each other. No matter the faces, the scars, the form of the eyes, we don't want to show ourselves as we really are. We prefer a secure connection, overprotected, the one that we adopt every day, a bit like this: "https://" (Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol) we may name it wishing for anonymity?

If a group of people, without knowing, meets en plen air with a bilayer above the skin,
what would the self-righteous say? Would they join the assemblage

We need 20 volunteers, 20 person-objects of Anonymity.
It's like a multicoloured dump, but the Artist this time is not in it.
What happens if He's the only one not having fun?

More and more often we see urban performances or artistic acts that alter the daily life of everyday citizens; in which the Artist meets the mass and at the same time is in conflict with it.
In these actions, the Artist places him or herself on the opposite side as an orchestral conductor, necessary, but invisible. Instead in this performance, the Artist will reveal him or herself just in the exact time, as the sound of a gong, giving the start to a multicoloured marathon.
In an "exact time" that the ancient Greeks call "Kairos".
Above the Skin is an artistic and urban action that move from this need:
to meet up, naked and covered (to say it with an oxymoron) by a second skin.

In an era when every search is forcibly lonely, is it possible to overcome our beloved and hated individualisms? Research is discovering, it is immersion; Community is expanding, opening - so can the two dimensions coexist? And could the coexistence of these two fundamental dimensions of man (the vertical and the horizontal) be communicated through the Arts?
These are the main questions Giuseppe Bonifati will be investigating through this project.

    How will we proceed?

During the workshop Giuseppe Bonifati will "reveal" the secrets of the intimate performance"ivetotellusomething". He will involve the participants physically and interact with them, so as to give them an experience and pass on knowledge, as if practising in a laboratory practice.
The performance allows a Community to come into contact with research, literally one or two people at a time.  The passive role of the spectators is broken, letting them interact with the performer for 5 minutes in a small space, like a closet.
During the workshop Giuseppe Bonifati will teach simple exercises, so that each of the participants can experience the other. It will be a real sharing among a Local Community.

    Theatre as Interference
This sentence should be understood literally. The theatre intervenes in the daily routine and in the usual activities of different milieus of the City. The resulting Disorder shows itself in the form of a renewing energy and a displacement of habitual perspectives. Giuseppe Bonifati plans to use the perspective of interference during the second part of the project.

A large group of citizens shouldl be "disturbed" and "changed" by our theatre interference.
Who has never jumped on a stage, is really welcome:
this time the stage will be the street!

    10 International Artists

10 Local People from Holstebro / Odins Venner

The 20 participants of the workshop could be young people, adults, students,

locals or foreigners; regardless of race, religion, sex.

Guiseppe Bonifati is interested overall in meeting common people

Those who have never been on a stage are really welcome:

this time the stage will be the street!
